As for the multiplayer itself, I’m impressed. [3 Hour Impressions]

It tantalises with the thought of a loneliness as big as a county, a landscape of hollowed-out vignettes - Gone Home with the resources of an open world blockbuster at its disposal. But then a team-mate bounces a grenade off your head just as another group crests the road in a rattle of shotgun fire, and you're back playing that other game, the knockabout party blaster wearing Fallout's skin. It's not a natural marriage, but it has a certain rough-and-ready charm, and I'm curious to see where it takes us. [3 Hour Impressions]

The setup is definitely intriguing, and the small taste I got of it delivered plenty of fun. My hesitation comes from not knowing if this entry will hook me in the same way that the last three installments did. It's still Fallout, but if those hooks are gone, can the multiplayer experience replace them? [3-Hour Impressions]

This world is vast – four times larger than Fallout 4, apparently – and it’s clear that’s part of the plan. Fallout 76 feels oddly lonely for an online game and, after three hours with it, that’s for better and worse. [Impressions]
  5. Those who love Fallout will find all the same great story-telling because there is an actual full story with story quests. Those who didn’t enjoy the franchise may discover there’s still a lot to enjoy with their friends.

That first encounter draws out the fact that even an aspiration as simple and reasonable as Fallout 76’s — play a great role-playing game, just with friends — inherently poses some conflict to the staple experiences the series is expected to serve. [3 Hour Impressions]
